When trying to lose weight, fruits are what some people first opt for as their healthy option for eating right. There’s no wonder why. Fruits are sweet and of various types; even a picky person will be able to find at least one type that they can settle for. The confusion, however, comes when a person who is working to lose weight is told that he/she cannot eat just any fruits. And your head is going, “Wait a minute! Are fruits good or they are not?”

Fruits are good – very good. But as with anything, it’s important to consume them in moderation. Some fruits are particularly high in sugar OR they have high Glycemic Index (which is how a food ranks on their ability to raise blood sugar levels). Of course, for these kinds of fruits, they should be consumed even more mindfully.

That said, I have listed below 5 fruits that will do your weight loss program a lot of good. Stock up on them and enjoy your fruitilicious mornings, afternoons or evenings.

1. Bananas.

Bananas are sweet fruits, that some desiring weight loss may consider a “no go” due to fear of consuming too many calories or too much sugar. On the contrary though, bananas are actually very good and will in fact, support weight loss. This is because they are very rich in fiber, which makes it very filling. When you feel full, you’re less likely to eat mindlessly and overconsume food. In addition, bananas are very good sources of potassium, which helps to regulate fluids and mineral balance in body cells, maintain normal blood pressure, transmit

nerve impulses, helps muscles contract and so much more. Bananas are also good sources of Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and magnesium. Bananas are a great source of easily digestible carbohydrates, which make them a great option for fueling up before workouts.

2. Apples.

Apples are one of the most popular fruits and they are of various types. I love apples because they are easy go-to snacks when I have had my meal but still feel hungry. Apples are highly nutrient dense (that is, they provide a lot of nutrients in one serving). They are rich in fiber, making them very filling. They are also good sources of Vitamin C, providing 10% of the daily value of Vitamin C in one serving. Apples are also good sources of vitamin K, potassium, and copper.

3. Oranges.

Citrus fruits are great sources of Vitamin C. In fact, oranges provide 91% of the daily Vitamin C value in one single fruit. When eaten whole, they are rich in fiber, containing about 12% of the daily value. This means they will make you feel full and better able to control your appetite. Aside from their weight loss benefits, oranges protects our cells from damage, helps the body absorb iron and hence, fight anemia, boosts our immune system to fight germs, and help you feel full.

4. Watermelons.

Watermelons are 92% water, so they help to improve hydration in the body. In addition to this, because of their high-water content, as with other fruits, they make you feel full even when you haven’t had a lot of food. They are also low in calories, which means eating a good portion of it will not rack up too many calories for you.

5. Berries.

Berries are great, not just because they are of various delicious kinds, they are all also very low in calories. They serve perfectly as mid-morning, midday or midnights, without the guilt. In addition, berries are a great source of soluble fiber, which helps to slow down movement of food through the digestive system, thereby reducing hunger pangs. In addition, berries are good sources of Vitamin C, manganese, Vitamin K1, copper, folate, etc. They provide the body with a range of good nutrients.

Of course, you know you cannot just eat these fruits and expect to lose weight. As I’ve posted previously, sustainable weight loss is a combination of eating quality healthy meals with the right portion size.
