Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. - Psalm 37:5

God Can Use You Too

God isn’t limited by age, background, or status. He can use men, women, children, animals, or even inanimate objects if He chooses. What He’s looking for is availability, not perfection.

Have you ever seen a dog do something so smart that it almost didn’t feel real? I’ve watched clips of dogs turning on lights, rescuing people from drowning, and even using remote controls to change TV channels. But no matter how intelligent animals can be, the idea of one actually speaking human words sounds like something out of a cartoon.

That’s what makes the story of Balaam’s donkey in Numbers 22:21-33 so fascinating. Balaam was on his way to curse God’s people, and though God tried to get his attention, he wasn’t listening. The Bible says an angel stood in his path to stop him, but Balaam couldn’t see it. His donkey, on the other hand, could. Each time the animal tried to avoid the angel, Balaam became more frustrated and beat it.

Then something unbelievable happened; God opened the donkey’s mouth, and it spoke. “What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?” it asked. Only then did Balaam’s eyes open to see the angel standing before him, sword in hand. The donkey’s actions had literally saved his life.

That story always makes me pause. If God could use a donkey - a humble, everyday animal - to deliver a message and protect someone, what excuse do we humans have?

We often disqualify ourselves from being used by God. Maybe you’ve thought things like:
“I’m not that gifted.”
“I’m too shy.”
“My past is too messy.”
“Other people are more spiritual.”

But time and again, Scripture shows that God delights in using the unexpected. When religious leaders tried to silence Jesus’ followers in Luke 19:39–40, He said that if the people kept quiet, even the stones would cry out in praise. In 1 Samuel 3, when Eli the priest had lost touch with God, He called out to young Samuel - a boy still learning to recognize His voice.

God is not limited by age, background, or status. He can use men, women, children, animals, or even inanimate objects if He chooses. What He’s looking for is availability, not perfection.

So if you’ve been hesitating, thinking you’re not enough for God to work through, remember Balaam’s donkey. God can use anyone. All He needs is a willing heart and a bit of faith.

You might not have all the skills, confidence, or credentials, but when you put yourself in God’s hands, He can do far more through you than you ever imagined. If He can make a donkey speak, He can certainly make your life speak for Him too.

Pray with me.
Dear Lord, I surrender myself to You. Help me not to focus on my weaknesses or limitations, but to keep my eyes on You. Use me, Lord, to accomplish Your purpose in this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
