"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning." (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Keep Christ in Christmas

As you prepare to take time off work or school, spend time with family, open gifts, attend carol services, or enjoy Christmas parties, don’t forget the true reason for the season.

Recently, I sat with a group of ladies who shared their anxiety about feeling unprepared for the fast-approaching Christmas season. They still had gifts to buy, baking to complete, events to organize, and endless tasks on their to-do lists. In today’s world, Christmas has largely become a festive activity. People love the colors, decorations, and holiday cheer. Children eagerly anticipate gifts and Santa Claus, while hardworking employees look forward to time off to relax with family and friends. With each passing year, Christmas is becoming more focused on people, gifts, and celebrations—and less and less about Christ.

Just a few days ago, I read about a “Keep Christ in Christmas” sign removed by a city in British Columbia. The residents argued that the message was offensive because it made Christmas about Christianity, excluding others. To them, Christmas is merely a “fun event” for everyone and should not center on Christ. If this weren’t so disheartening, it might almost be laughable. Many are eager to enjoy the blessings of the season but are unwilling to acknowledge the God who bestows those blessings.

As you prepare to take time off work or school, spend time with family, open gifts, attend carol services, or enjoy Christmas parties, don’t forget the true reason for the season. Christmas exists because God chose to sacrifice His Son to pay the penalty for our sins. This is a perfect time to share the gospel of Christ with those around us. The greatest gift we can offer this season is the gift of salvation.

In everything you do this Christmas, remember to keep Christ in Christmas. Do not lose sight of the true meaning of the season.

Happy Celebrating!
