"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning." (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Prayers for Fathers

I hope that everyone can take some time to pray for Christian fathers so that they can succeed in their roles and excel in their calling as fathers.

Fathers have a lot of responsibilities. They are expected to be priests in the home and leaders in the community. When they are in pain, they are not expected to express it. When they lose a loved one, they are expected to take charge and ensure that everyone else is doing okay. There are so many expectations people have of fathers, and sometimes, it can get overwhelming for them.

As we celebrate our fathers this season, I'd like to encourage them with these scriptures:

  • Joshua 1:9 - Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Just as God encouraged Joshua when he had to take on the leadership of a nation and a people that his previous leader had called stiff-necked, God is encouraging fathers to be strong and courageous in a world where being a father is more difficult than it has ever been.

  • Matthew 11:28-30 - Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

I hope the fathers and soon-to-be fathers reading this will be encouraged by these scriptures. I also hope that everyone can take some time to pray for Christian fathers so that they can succeed in their roles and excel in their calling as fathers. To help get started, here are some prayers we can make for fathers. Let us pray that:

  1. Our fathers will be rooted and grounded in God’s love and grow in Christ (Ephesians 3:18-19).

  2. God would help our fathers take their positions as priests and leaders in the home, community, and church (1 Timothy 3:5).

  3. God will give them the wisdom to carry out all their responsibilities, especially when it is difficult (Proverbs 2:6).

  4. God will grant them the grace needed to deal with the challenges that come with their roles as fathers (1 Corinthians 10:13).

  5. God will give them wisdom to depend on Him and be vulnerable with Him, knowing that He is the Father of all fathers (Isaiah 41:13).

  6. God will grant them sound health; heal the bodies of those who are sick or struggling and strengthen them physically (Exodus 23:25).

  7. God will help restore broken or hurting relationships between fathers and their children who are in this kind of situation (Isaiah 43:18-19).

  8. God will grant them the financial provision that they need to be able to carry out their responsibilities in their homes and the lives of their children and families (Philippians 4:19).
