"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning." (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Power Mighty in the Blood - Part 4: What the Blood Does for Us

The blood of Jesus can never lose its power. It doesn’t diminish, never decays, cannot dry up, cannot be stopped, it is not diluted, it doesn’t run out, you don’t need to ration it, it cannot be infected, it cannot be discolored or degraded. It is ever powerful, ever fresh, ever flowing, ever red, ever able to cleanse all sin.

Several times, we sing songs or use colloquial phrases about the blood of Jesus; but many of us have only a limited understanding of what the Blood of Jesus is; its functions and the tremendous power that it carries.

The blood of Jesus is so potent that all the world relies on it for life.

1. First and foremost, just like the human blood, the blood of Jesus cleanses.

From my little understanding of biology, I know of a process called Phagocytosis. Phagocytosis is a process by which the human blood identifies a toxin (harmful substance) and releases phagocytes (a type of cell) to engulf these toxins and then pass them out of the body through various means.

  • The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. – 1 John 1:7

Sin is a toxin. It is destructive; it is deadly. In Leviticus 16:1-34, we see that sin is such a toxin that innocent animals had to be killed for it every year. And without the blood of Jesus, man has no way to escape its deadly effects. Nothing else, apart from the blood of Jesus, can take away sin – Hebrews 10:4

  • The blood of goats and bulls could only cover sins. They just were a means for God to overlook the sins of the Israelites for that season. With the blood of bulls and goats, there was always a reminder of sin – Hebrews 10:3. But the blood of Jesus doesn’t just cover sins. It takes it away completely – every bit of it, with all its remembrance – John 1:29; Hebrews 9:12-14; Hebrews 9:26.

  • Now, in the human blood, sometimes, the toxins are too strong for the phagocytes that they overcome the phagocytes and continue to harm the recipient. The blood/body now has to find other means to eliminate the toxins from the body. But the blood of Jesus cannot be overcome by anything. There is no amount or thickness or darkness or level of sin that His blood cannot cleanse.

That song says – “It reaches to the highest mountain and it flows to the lowest valley…” The highest mountain could be likened to a sinner who is self-righteous, like the Pharisees, obeying even beyond what the law asks him to do – all by his own power – Matthew 5:20. The lowest mountain could be likened to that sinner who is so deep in sin, so so dirty and deep in sin and has no remorse about it. From the highest mountain of a person’s sin down to the lowest valley of sin, the Blood of Jesus cleanses them all – GLORY!!!

It can never lose its power.

  • Also, in the human body, if the blood succeeds in defeating a toxin and the person is healed from that illness, it is not a guarantee that the person will not get sick again. Our human blood doesn’t cleanse a person from harmful substances permanently or once and for all. But the blood of Jesus takes away sin once and for all. He doesn’t have to die for us every year. He did it once and it was settled permanently, eternally in heaven. His blood is ever available, ever cleansing us (whether we are conscious of it or not). Hebrews 10:14 - For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.

2. The blood of Jesus takes away the guilt and shame of sin.

Guilt of sin can hold a person bound to his past, even after he has accepted Christ and is born again. To ensure that we enjoy our freedom in Christ, the blood of Jesus not only takes away sin, it also removes the guilt of sin; and Hebrews 9:13-14 tells us that this is so that we can serve the living God. Shame and guilt can prevent us from serving God and living for Him. Praise Jesus that His blood deals with these too.

3. The blood of Jesus creates an access for us to the Father.

It opens the pathway for us to approach the Father. Not timidly; we have boldness to enter in (right to be where God is) because of the blood of Jesus – Hebrews 10:19. Once, we had no hope in this world, but now, the blood of Jesus gives us hope by bringing us near to God – Ephesians 2:12-13. In fact, we have God inside of us. Because of the blood of Jesus, God now resides in us.

In the Old Testament, only the High Priest could enter into the Holy of Holies and this was only once a year. Legend has it that when he entered, because there was always a possibility that he could die, he would wear a garment with fringes made of little bells and would attach a long rope to his leg that would extend outside. The bells were to make people aware that he was still alive and moving. If the people outside stopped hearing the bells from his movement, they would know that something had happened and pull him out with the rope. They could not even enter to see what had happened.

But we not only come boldly before the Father (Hebrews 4:16), we have GOD Himself living inside of us and us in Him (John 14:20). Hallelujah!!!

4. His blood justifies us before the Father.

We stand as though we have never sinned. While the sin of Adam caused all men to be sinners; Jesus’ obedience gives us a place of right standing with God – Romans 5:9-21. All the sin of mankind was poured on Jesus when He died on the cross. Jesus basically took care of the sin problem and declared us righteous through His sacrifice.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says - For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

5. We are not only justified by His blood. We are also sanctified (set apart for God) by His blood

"Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate." - Hebrews 13:12. We are not going to be holy. We are already made holy. Hebrews 10:10 says, “For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.” This means our sanctification is permanent. Glory!!!

6. The blood of Jesus makes available for us divine healing.

It not only removed sin, it also removed sickness – Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24. Sin is from the devil and so is sickness. When Christ dealt with sin on the cross, He also dealt with sickness. We have been healed by His stripes and we can enjoy divine health in Him. Praise God!

7. We overcome the devil by the blood of Jesus.

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." – Revelation 12:11. We are not only conquerors, but we are also more than conquerors through Him – Romans 8:37. We stand against the devil and tell him to get his filthy hands off our lives, our families, our ministry, our businesses, our careers, our money, etc. – because of the blood of Jesus.

  • We also can stand against the devil’s accusations by the blood of Jesus – Romans 8:33-34; Revelation 12:10-11.

  • By the blood of Jesus, we can resist the devil and all he brings with him – defeat, sickness, pain, hopelessness, fear, anxiety, struggle with Christian life, depression, etc.

8. The blood of Jesus can stand as a witness or evidence for us – Hebrews 12:24.

  • We see from scriptures that blood can speak. It could speak vengeance – Genesis 4:10; Revelation 6:9-10. The blood of Jesus also speaks, but it speaks: deliverance, forgiveness, salvation, freedom, healing, victory, redemption, restoration, etc. So, wherever the name of the believer is mentioned for evil, the blood of Jesus can respond on his behalf.

  • Some people say things like "I plead the blood of Jesus", without understanding what they are doing. "Pleading" used in this manner is a legal term. When an accused stands in the court and says, "I plead such and such amendment", he/she is saying that they wish to exercise the authority or rights they have in that amendment. So when we say we plead the blood of Jesus, what we are doing is presenting the blood of Jesus as evidence of what is ours in Christ We are telling the Father, “By the reason of the blood that Jesus shed, we have this and this and this in Christ.” Glory to God.

I thank God for the blood of Jesus. Glory. Hallelujah!!!
